Celebrating 30 Years of Combined Naval Service and Continued Community Involvement
Laura and Mike Koerner were recently featured in Greet Fair Oaks Ranch magazine’s “Patriots of Fair Oaks Ranch” series, written by Greg Buschmann. The article highlights their combined 30 years of service in the U.S. Navy and their continued involvement in the community they have called home since 2010.
Laura, a 1997 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy who also holds a master’s degree from MIT, served as a Navy lieutenant before continuing her public service in Texas. She was elected to the Fair Oaks Ranch City Council in 2017, serving eight years, and was appointed to the Texas Veterans Commission by Governor Greg Abbott in 2018. She became chair of the commission in 2020, with her current term extending through 2029.
Mike retired from the Navy as a lieutenant commander and has remained active in public service and emergency response. His contributions include serving as senior staff for our US Congressman and US Senator and as a local first responder. In 2019, the Leon Springs Fire Department recognized him as Firefighter of the Year.
The feature also includes photographs of Laura speaking about nuclear energy at a Rotary Club of Fair Oaks Ranch luncheon and of Laura and Mike with their daughters, Alex and Eva, at a 2025 event marking the conclusion of Laura’s eight years on City Council.
The article offers a look at the Koerners’ military backgrounds, family life and continued participation in civic and community organizations.
